Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport is the fourth busiest airport in the UK in terms of passengers per year. However, it serves more foreign destinations than any other airport in the world apart from Schipol. Many of Manchester's overseas routes are served by charter flights to holiday destinations, some being seasonal.

Manchester City Centre is approximately 20 minutes’ drive from the airport, via the M56 motorway, with a dedicated spur road from the motorway at junction 5. Taxi ranks are situated in front of all three terminals. On average a taxi into the city will cost £25.

Manchester Airport has a dedicated railway station – known as “The Station” – located between Terminals 1 and 2 and accessible from both via a Skylink moving walkway. Trains to Manchester Piccadilly Station run six times an hour, from 05:40 to 23:30, and then hourly during the night. Journey time is about 25 minutes. The Station also incorporates a bus station with a 24-hour Skyline Service (No. 43) to the City Centre, running at least every 30 minutes. Journey time is approximately 55 minutes.

General Transport

The easiest and most fun way to get around Manchester is by tram. The Metrolink tram system is one of Europe’s newest. Metrolink trams run through Manchester City Centre, on through Salford Quays and West into Eccles. They also run through the suburbs to Altrincham in the South and to Bury in the North, as well as connecting Manchester Piccadilly Station with Manchester Victoria railway station. The trams run every 6 minutes during the day from Monday to Saturday and at intervals of 12-15 minutes on Sundays.

There is also an extensive bus network throughout the Greater Manchester area operated by several commercial operators. The city's bus hub is located at Piccadilly Garden.
